Osteopathy

Gentle, whole-body manual therapy from an osteopathic manual practitioner, used alongside your physiotherapy care.

Osteopathic manual therapy is a hands-on approach that treats the body as one connected system. Rather than working only where the symptom is, the practitioner assesses how the joints, muscles, connective tissue and their surrounding structures move in relation to each other, then uses gentle, sustained techniques to ease restriction and restore movement.

People often choose it for persistent tension that has not responded to other approaches, for the postural changes of pregnancy and the postpartum months, for digestive discomfort with a musculoskeletal component, and for headaches or jaw tension linked to the neck and upper back. The techniques are slow and low-force, which makes the approach a reasonable option when a body is sensitive or recovering.

In Ontario, osteopathy is not yet a regulated health profession, and care here is provided by an osteopathic manual practitioner. That distinction matters for two practical reasons: an osteopathic manual practitioner is not a physician and does not provide medical diagnosis, and extended health plans differ in whether they reimburse this service. Check your plan before booking if coverage matters to you.

Osteopathy is offered alongside physiotherapy rather than as a replacement for it, and the two are coordinated when you see both.

What to Expect

The first visit is longer, and most of it is assessment: your health history, how you move, and where restriction shows up. Treatment is hands-on and gentle, and you stay clothed throughout. Afterwards you may feel looser, or tired for a day as your body adjusts — your practitioner will tell you what to expect and when to come back.
