SOMOM (“we,” “us,” “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who visits our clinic or our website. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. It applies to somomwellness.com and to the care we provide at our clinic in Toronto.
As an Ontario health-care provider, we handle personal health information in accordance with Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and, for other personal information, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Information we collect
- Contact details you give us — name, email, phone — when you book, enquire, or contact us.
- Health information relevant to your care — symptoms, history, assessment findings and treatment notes — collected with your knowledge as part of providing physiotherapy and related services.
- Booking and billing information processed through our online booking and payment systems.
- Website and usage information — collected through cookies and analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager (for example pages visited, device and browser type, and approximate location), used to keep the site working, understand how it is used, and measure our advertising.
How we use your information
We use your information to provide and coordinate your care, schedule and manage appointments, process payments and direct-billing claims, communicate with you about your care, meet our professional and legal obligations, and improve our services. We do not sell your personal information.
When we share information
We share your information only where necessary and, for health information, with your consent or as permitted or required by law. This may include other members of your care team within the clinic and, with your consent, your family doctor or other providers. We disclose information without consent only where the law requires or permits it — for example, a legal obligation or a risk to someone’s safety.
Service providers
We use trusted third-party services to run the clinic and the website, such as our online booking and records platform, payment processors, and website analytics and advertising providers (including Google). These providers are bound to protect your information and to use it only for the services they provide to us.
How we protect and keep your information
We use administrative, physical and technical safeguards to protect your information against loss, theft and unauthorized access. Health records are kept for the period required by professional and legal standards, after which they are securely destroyed.
Your rights
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, and to withdraw consent to certain uses (though this may affect our ability to provide care). To make a request, contact us and we will respond within the time frames the law allows.
Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are necessary for the site to function; others help us understand how the site is used and measure the performance of our online advertising. We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager for this, which may set cookies and collect standard usage information — such as pages visited, device or browser type and approximate location — on our behalf.
